Porsche 356A 1600GS Carrera GT Coupe
|Introduction
The 356A 1600GS Carrera GT was the high performance version of the 356A. With the Carrera nameplate, Porsche produced their first real production sports car. Named after Porsches victory at the Carrera Panamericana in 52, 53 and 54, this model mated the potent four-camshaft engine from the 550 RS Spyder into the 356s unassuming chassis. By 1958, it used a larger displacement version better suited for the 1600cc class, which was much more free-revving and powerful.
The GT version was also lightened and prepared for racing. This meant it featured little sound deadening or upholstery, aluminum bucket seats, increased compression and more power. The race specification Type 692/3 engine produced 141 bhp. In 1958-59 the 1600cc Carreras GT enjoyed success around the world in hillclimb and endurance events such as the 1000km of Nurburgring. They also dominated the SCCA Class F in the U.S.
Porsche described the Carrera model philosophy in their 1956 American brochure: We predict that the new Carrera engine by Porsche will take the motoring world by storm. (…) it becomes the first production sports car in the 1500 class to reach 125MPH limit, and at the same time remain a comfortable and easy handling touring car. (…) the Carrera is in keeping with the Porsche spirit and is the latest in a series which has dominated the scene since its first day on the track.

Physics
The Base version is a street version of the 356A Carrera but provided with a 1600cc race tuned engine (141 HP). We think this is what works team would have entered in major races such as Le Mans in the late 50’s.
The upgraded version (S1) of the 356A 1600GS Carrera GT is an evolved track version. Our goal was to make it have similar performance to 356’s racing in the SCCA in the early 60’s.
Main upgrades of S1:
– Weight reduction (no bumpers and lightweighting)
– Lowered suspension and center of gravity
– More suspension setup options
– Race engine 150+HP (based on Willhoit Restauration dyno of type 692/3A engine bored to 1755cc), featuring improved low-end torque and higher rev limit.
– Improved brakes
About sounds
The engine sound has been made by Ensyuya from scratch build completely.
Other sound samples are recorded by Ensyuya from real classic VWs or Kunos original sources.
Polycounts and distance for optimization are about
LOD A 180000
In modeling it is a 180k polygons. But output KN5 file become 300k. I am investigating the cause now.
Damage model and dirt function fully work.
All functions Kunos implemented in AC are working properly. Even wipers and gear shift are.
