Hyundai Elantra N TCR

Assetto Corsa Hyundai Elantra N TCR

Hi all. Last couple of months, when I was talking about the announced Cupra TCR update, I sometimes mentioned another TCR car which will join the roster. I expected that I will be overwhelmed by the questions which car will it be, but almost nobody asked πŸ˜€ Probably people just missed that part πŸ˜€ Like when I released the Cupra TCR, there were a lot of questions whether I will do more TCR cars or not, and I said it is very unlikely. But you know how it is, if the opportunity arises, you should get advantage of that, so here it is, the Hyundai Elantra N TCR car, in version 1.0.

To be honest, firstly I didn’t like how Elantra looked, it was like a boat with weird sharp edges. I never considered doing this mod, but then some interesting things happened. Firstly, I got my hands on the Elantra TCR car manual. I went trough it, found some interesting stuff… Something was similar, something completely different to Cupra. But once, in a weak moment I took the Cupra physics, adjusted the data from Elantra manual and I put it on that infamous Virtual TCR Elantra version just to try it. Did some tests, some comparisons, I was playing with it a little but then, I forgot about it and focused on Cupra.

Then another thing happened. I am a Slovak and there is one very good Slovak TCR driver Mato Homola, who drives the Elantra TCR in TCR Eastern Europe and I had the chance to speak with him. He told me that the Cupra is very good, but he would like to have Elantra in the AC for training… You know, just a small talk, but he said if I would ever work on this, he would be willing to help. Ok, but still I was not convinced.

Then the break point happened. Since couple of my mods were recently featured at the Low Fuel Motorsport portal, I got in touch with their CEO Boris, and I was discussing some planned updates with him, since I didn’t want to cause any troubles by releasing some updates in the middle of the season. We had quite a nice talk and he said he was big fan of my Cupra TCR and he asked what would it take to do another car TCR car. So I said that I basically just needed a 3D model of Elantra TCR, because I already fiddled with the physics of this car but I dont have legal 3D model. So Boris agreed to help me in this and he decided to buy the commercial 3D model available in online stores with quite a detailed interior. So Boris, big thanks once again to you and to the whole Low Fuel Motorsport crew! Without you, I would probably never start this project in this decade πŸ™‚

When I received the model from Boris, it was indeed detailed. Too much detailed, more than 1.000.000 tris which is not acceptable for a multiplayer racing, so I had to reduce the polygons, and remodel some parts which were lacking, or weren’t there at all or were in wrong position. I even used the iRacing’s Elantra TCR to compare and to screenshot some parts and modeled it from scratch. The final result is not bad, the car is quite detailed, interior as well, sometimes even more than necessary. Later I plan to work a little more on some interior materials, when I will have time.

The physics files originaly came from Cupra but were completely reworked. Elantra is longer, has different suspension, different engine, brakes gearbox, at least the tires are the same so both cars share the tire files. The suspension is not laser scanned, but built using some accurate CAD drawings and measurements from the PDF files and from my paddock sources. So not accurate to 1mm as the Cupra, but quite close. Dampers and ARBs are unique as well, there was quite a lot of data in the documents. Aero is very similar to Cupra, they are both touring cars, similar construction, and there were some data in the PDFs as well about the aero, so it is data based as well.

The whole development of the physics took quite a lot of time. My goal was to balance the performance with the Cupra TCR mod, so they can race against each other. And after a lot of hours of testing (thanks to the LFM crew again!) I can tell that the both cars are quite close to each other, but they retained their unique characteristics. Generally Elantra in basic setup is quite soft, but there are a lot of options how to adjust the car to your needs, just play with the setup πŸ™‚

The car utilizes multi-page display with all necessary pages for racing, including working launch control page which will appear when you will press Extra FΒ button like Cupra. To run this car, you need to have Content Shader Patch version 0.2.3 enabled. Will work on lower versions, but I don’t guarantee the compatibility.

So guys, I hope you will enjoy the second TCR car from my workshop and don’t be surprised seeing it battling the Cupra at the 15. season at LFM πŸ™‚
